Per IS 8295 Part 2, the minimum size for bamboo strips in coarse chicks includes: top and bottom strips measuring 30 mm in width by 5 mm in thickness, strengthening strips at 25 mm by 5 mm, and chick strips ranging from 6 to 10 mm wide with 3 mm thickness. Additionally, there must be at least 25 chick strips per 30 cm length, with chick strips spaced no more than 100 mm apart across the width, and strengthening strips laced at intervals not exceeding 90 cm along the length. These dimensions ensure structural soundness and durability for verandah coverings.

IS 8295 Part 2 specifies bamboo strips sourced from 'Sarkanda' or similar bamboo varieties for coarse chicks, intended mainly for verandah coverings. The bamboo strips' minimum dimensions are: 30 mm wide by 5 mm thick for top and bottom strips, 25 mm by 5 mm for strengthening strips, and 6 to 10 mm wide by 3 mm thick for chick strips. While the standard doesn't explicitly mandate thread types, natural fiber threads or jute twine are typically employed to bind the strips, providing both flexibility and strength.

According to IS 8295 Part 2, strengthening tapes must be 50 mm wide and positioned equidistantly from the edges and among themselves on the chick. They should be securely stitched along both edges throughout the length, covering the nearest interlacing line to act as a stopper. The number of tapes depends on the chick’s width: one tape for widths up to 250 cm, two tapes for widths between 251 and 350 cm, and three tapes for widths from 351 to 450 cm. This arrangement ensures durability and prevents the binding tape from slipping.

IS 8295 Part 2 mandates neat, durable stitching methods. The binding tape, which should be NEW AR tape 100 mm wide, must be stitched with a single row using either the hook-awl or two-needle technique; chain stitching is not allowed. The minimum stitching density is two stitches per 25 mm length. Strengthening tapes of 50 mm width are to be sewn securely along both edges and placed as per the chick’s width. These practices ensure the structural integrity and prevent damage or slippage during use.

Sampling and inspection are conducted following IS 2500 (Part 1)-1973 standards. The inspection level adopted is Level III, employing a single sampling plan with an Acceptable Quality Level (AQL) of 4.0%. This method focuses on attribute inspection based on defect counts. Products passing inspection may bear the ISI Certification Mark as per Clause 8.1.1, signifying conformity under Indian Standards Institution oversight. This balanced approach ensures effective quality control while maintaining practical acceptance criteria.
